Intel Inspires 2021 was the biggest year yet for American Video Game League (AVGL) and Intel, granting a total of $200,000 in scholarships to student gamers. We were thrilled to partner with such a diverse group of brand sponsors, partners, and influencers on our quest to help gamers succeed in their career goals.

Scholarships were open to US and Canadian high school juniors and seniors, college enrollees, graduate students, and all others who plan to attend college in the Fall of 2022.

Making dreams come true

Scholarship applications launched in Fall 2021, with over 18,000 students applying.  Applicants submitted a short video accompanied by a description regarding how the scholarship would impact their lives, challenges overcome, and how they’ve supported the gaming community. 

Each submission was randomly assigned and reviewed by a panel of judges to review and rank them based on Personal Story, Impact on their Community, and Other Intangibles.

Pokimane adds a personal touch

Further, influencer Pokimane offered an exclusive $100,000 scholarship ($50,000 from her, $50,000 from AVGL). Students were invited to share their goals for a chance at $10,000 toward their education.

Thanks to her massive audience and supportive reputation, Poki’s exclusive announcement and promotion of her scholarship generated roughly 55 million impressions.

Sharing the love

Intel Inspires scholarships were provided in the name of partners Intel, MSI, and AnyKey, as well as top influencers and pro teams. For the 2021 season, we focused on influencers with deep ties to diverse gaming communities such as MonsterDface, iamBrandonTV, Glenn Angel, Trick2g, Jay Justice, and Pokimane. We also partnered with two esports organizations — Gen.G and Evil Geniuses — each with strong advocacy behind scholastic esports.

Twenty students received $5,000 awards, and ten students received $10,000 awards through the Pokimane Scholarship. All scholarships were fulfilled by Scholarships America.

Winners were contacted to complete a “final video interview” for the scholarship so we could surprise them with the news.
